Paradise Performing Arts Center

The longest-serving cultural attraction in the Bronx, the historic 1929 Loew’s Paradise movie palace, has been reimagined as the Paradise Performing Arts Center. It will help transform both a landmark theater and its neighborhood and deliver world-class arts to one of New York City’s most culturally underserved neighborhoods.

97 years in the making, the Paradise Performing Arts Center is the second-largest theater in New York City after Radio City Music Hall. Its new, updated mission is to present a range of artistic voices that mirror the community and expand access to the arts to the widest possible audience.

Performing Arts in the Bronx

Programming will include concerts, stand-up comedy, family shows, dance, film, and educational events. Presenting performing arts in the heart of the Bronx will be a spectacular achievement of urban renewal that will help profoundly revitalize the community.

Local impact will be felt in countless ways: economic development through new jobs both at the theater and in the neighborhood; introducing young people to the arts and arts education; cultivating new talent and new audiences; and featuring local concessions.

Every other New York City borough has major theatrical venues, and now the Bronx has one also.

A LEGENDARY THEATER · SINCE 1929

Almost a century
Still Extraordinary

When Loew’s Paradise opened in 1929, it brought a world of wonder to the Grand Concourse. Architect John Eberson imagined an Italian garden beneath a star-filled sky. Many consider the Paradise Eberson’s crown jewel of the 500 theaters he designed.

Now, a new chapter begins as the Paradise Performing Arts Center. The same magnificent setting. A NEW ERA of CONCERTS, FILM, IMMESERSIVE THEATER, COMEDY, DANCE, EDUCATION & COMMUNITY EVENTS.

Discover the Paradise story

The Paradise opened on September 7, 1929, presenting films alongside live stage entertainment. Its atmospheric design used a blue ceiling, electric stars, and projected clouds to suggest an outdoor evening.

After subdivision into a multiplex and closure in 1994, restoration returned the auditorium to a single grand space. The theater reopened in 2005. New York City designated the exterior a landmark in 1997 and the interior in 2006.
